Dunlop Oil and Marine is a world leader in the design, manufacture and supply of hoses for the oil, gas and petrochemical industries, for both offshore and onshore based operations.
The company came to Engineered Software to create a durability test for their marine hoses, which are used in over 50 countries worldwide. We designed and supplied equipment to meet their requirements.
Up to four hoses are loaded into a bund and tested simultaneously. Each hose is filled with a fluid and the pressure is increased to a defined value. This pressure is monitored to check for leaks over a given period, typically in excess of a hundred hours.
A bespoke LabVIEW application controls the equipment, and allows users to setup both hose and test pressure profiles. This information can then be selected when setting up a test. This approach allows historical data to be recalled and applied to new products. Selected profiles and test results are overlaid and saved to a results file.
As with all durability software, in the event of an unexpected failure, tests can be resumed or aborted on recovery. An application event log highlights conditions throughout the duration of the test.
Other application features include signal calibration, engineering status and user control.
A key interlock system and failsafe devices provide system safety, all of which are monitored from within the application.
